International Linkages Programme to Melbourne
G'day mate!
On 29 May 2012 a group of 25 students and 3 teachers from our school had finally landed on Australian soil as little ambassadors of Ministry of Education Malaysia. We arrived Melbourne after an eight hour back aching journey from KL LCCT to Melbourne Airport but excited and anticipating in lots of expectations such as climatic changes, cultural shocks and and of course the Aussie's twang.. After several tight security checks and customs clearance we finally made to breathe that awesome cool temperate air that nearly chilled our marrows.
We were then taken in a bus ride driven by a nice and friendly asian Australian chap, Mr Chen. He was the first pioneer of Vietnamese boat people to arrive at Pulau Bidong, Trengganu in the 70's. Our first assignment trip was at Minaret Islamic College. located in Springvale which took about 45 minutes ride. Upon arrival we were warmly greeted by the Vice Principal of the college. The group were served hot coffee, sandwiches and kebabs after a brief and detailed welcoming speech by the vice principal.
Later the girls had a closed friendly match of volleyball game...strictly ladies audience only! After the mass Zohor prayer our girls performed the nasyid, slide presentations and a cultural show of Kelantan.. Among other activities held between the two institutions, was attending class sessions and participating in teaching and learning environments.
On Wednesday 30th we went to our another Islamic college, the Al Taqwa College located in Truganina took about 40 minutes to reach there. The group was greeted with great joy by Mr Hassan and taken to the school hall for a get to know session. Again our students engaged in a number of activities before been treated with Lebanese foods. Before we left the group mingled around with local students for photography sessions.
Our last assignment was at Monash College in Burke Street , city centre which is a 5 minutes walk from the residing hotel. Mr Norm the representative greeted us and introduced the vice principal and our most helpful tour guide and spokelady Miss Praveena Hari, We spent about a couple of hours engaging in Physic foundation class and listening to our fellow Malaysian Phd candidate's lecture on ways and means to handle asthmatic inhaler gadgets. Later we made our way to Monash University Clayton campus. The trip took an hour and a half but we were comfortable because of the sunny weather and awesome picturesque view of the huge and well established university. Here at Monash Uniniversty we were briefed about the Physic faculty by the Marketing Manager Ms Nicole Sims before visiting various departments around the campus.
We arrived KL LCCT 1 June, Friday morning before taking a connecting flight home to Kota Bharu late in the evening.
